Getting to the Chathams
The Chatham Islands has its very own homegrown airline - Air Chathams. From humble Island beginnings, to now being New Zealands largest privately owned airline, the airline now has an extensive route network, with a modern fleet of turboprop airlines.
Air Chathams operate up to 6 flights per week to the Islands, with flights departing from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Flights are operated by a 68 seater ATR 72-500 aircraft, with flight times from the mainland around 2-3hrs. Fares start from as low as $299.00, and it pays to book well in advance.
Adverse Weather can often hamper flight operations, sometimes for days at a time. Like all travel adventures, GoWeka thoroughly recommendeds a decent Travel Insurance policy.
Accomodation Options
The Chathams have a wide range of Accommodation options, from Hotels, to Homestays, and even Self Contained Houses. Availability can be very limited in peak season, or during Island events.

Located in Waitangi, right on the Harbour, Hotel Chathams is the Islands only Hotel. With a wide range of rooms to suit all requirements and price ranges, Hotel Chathams has cemented itself as a major foundation of Island Tourism. The Hotel has an on-site restaurant specializing in fresh Island Seafood. Airport Transfers, Rental Cars, Guided Tours and Fishing Expeditions can be organized through the Hotel.

Chatham Island Time
The Chatham Islands have their own timezone which is +45mins ahead of New Zealand mainland. Most Cellphones will automatically pick up the change in timezone upon landing in the Chathams. All local activities etc operate in the local timezone, however things like Television programming run on New Zealand time (eg. 6pm News Bulletin airs at 6.45pm Local Time)
